THE BOYS NEXT DOOR @ Public Playhouse

The Public Playhouse's production of THE BOYS NEXT DOOR opens Friday night, March 9th, and runs through April 1st, with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and on Sundays at 2 p.m. The venue is The Decker Theater at Clark College, in Vancouver, just over the bridge, 20 minutes from downtown Portland, with a bit of traffic.

The Public Playhouse, run by Jolin and Dustin Milberg, had a very strong opening season last year--THE COMPLETE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE doing very well at CoHo, over the summer--and from my experience working there, I consider it to be one of the strongest new theater ventures to have come to the area in the last couple of years. The Milbergs are extremely professional, ambitious, and plan for The Public Playhouse to settle in for the long haul.

The cast of THE BOYS NEXT DOOR is uniformly strong. The principles are doing a fantastic job of playing mentally-handicapped adults without caricature or condescension. Their performances assure a satisfying and entertaining night.

Tonight, Wed., March 7th, is final dress. Anyone who will not be able to see the show at a later date--or is feeling particularly broke--is invited to attend. Curtain up at 7:30 p.m. Please drop me an email if you'd like to come. We could use a preview audience, since this show is very much a comedy.

Wish I could get out to see it, David. I love The Boys Next Door - We did the show while I was at University of Alaska, and it's a very hopeful and poignant play. Unfortunately, life's a little too busy at the moment... but I'll try to make it up before the run closes!
