UHouston MFA Reading List

Jack Young has emailed the syllabus to the incoming MFA Acting class of 2009. The playwrights with whom he seems to like working most are O'Neill, Williams, and Ibsen. We're also to read a lot of theory and method, including Bogart, Brooks, Cohen, Hagan, Linklater, Mamet, Meisner, Stanislavski, Spolin, Suzuki, and many others.

Jack has also instructed us to have chosen 160+ monologues to work on, before classes begin: ten contemporary and ten classical in each category of comic, serious, "small 'truth & beauty,'" and "Rock the House," plus a couple of Greeks and prose pieces. The greatest immediate value of having to find these monologues is in getting to plays I haven't read yet.

We're off and running....
