Kim Weild, "an actor, teacher, choreographer, singer, director and motion capture artist based in New York City," is guest directing the UH spring production of THE GOOD WOMAN OF SETZUAN, in a collaborative production involving the UH Dept. of Theater & Dance and Two Star Symphony. Ms. Weild's bio reads:
"She has worked extensively in both Europe and the US. Among the artists with whom she has worked are George Balanchine, Anne Bogart, Max Stafford-Clark, Andre Gregory, Tina Landau, Edward Gorey, Andrea Haring, Beatrice Lees, Bradford Mays, Larry Moss, Mike Nichols, George Morrison, Diane Paulus, Abraham Pulido, Paul Sills, Tadashi Suzuki, Robert Wilson, Charles Mee, Jr., Angela Lansbury, Marian Seldes, and, currently, Broadway director Michael Blakemore. She has performed all over the world, including The Royal Court Theatre, The Moscow Art Theatre, Teatro alla Scala, Lincoln Center, Circle in the Square, Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Saratoga Performing Arts Center, The Kitchen, and The Performance Garage.
Ms. Weild has trained extensively in Suzuki and Viewpoints for over 12 years; she has led ensembles in these training forms in Los Angeles, at UC-Irvine, Cal Arts, and Cal State Fullerton. She earned her MFA in Directing from Columbia University (NYC) under the supervision of Anne Bogart."
The Houston string and percussion ensemble, Two Star Symphony, is composing a score for live performance in this produciton.
We are all auditioning for Ms. Weilds in two weeks with cold reading, movement, and a song. I'm doing "Mac the Knife," this being Brecht, and all.
Another, tangentially related project is our assignment to choreograph and perform a four minute solo dance for a public performance, as well as to learn and perform as an ensemble the final song-and-dance number from HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, "We're all in this together."
And, finally, in Stage Combat, we just finished completing a 30 move rapier fight (two weeks ago, we did the Tybalt-Mercutio and Tybalt-Romeo fights from R&J, which Brian Byrnes had choreographed for the Houston Shakespeare Festival.)
Tonight, I hurt all over, after one hour of stage combat in the morning and then my afternoon workout, which included a couple of trips up the climbing wall at the (amazing) university gym. It's a good thing I'm this tired, or else I'd be in a dithering panic.
