Last night, we did a "sing-through" of As You Like It.  We giggled a lot at first but soon gave in.  Actors voices opened up, articulation improved, beats that had been slushy before suddenly popped out, dialogue that had had air in it suddenly chinked together, and actors who'd been tentative while 'merely speaking' found nerve and playfulness.  Many scenes were simply hilarious, either as parody of themselves or because singing pointed up the play's own humor, and many scenes were more touching than ever.  I've never had more fun on stage nor enjoyed more surprise.

Tonight, we'll see if any of it stuck, as we go back to speaking the words.

We tried this to loosen up some lines for you on DW. Admittedly the writing wasn't Shakespeare. Glad to hear you had fun. Not much point in all this without some joy.
