Art ≠ Parsimony
The difference between art and craft is the unnecessary. Formal necessity is a metaphysical game that distracts us from the void below and allows us to live suspended in the mid-air of non-meaning. It's a crush of bodies and yelping below, blinding white light above. I'll take Rilke over the NYT.
