I'd like to see an informative (and polite) debate about Hate Crime legislation. I believe we shouldn't legislate thought--i.e., a lynching is a lynching is a lynching regardless of the motive--but realize the feds need legal leverage to prosecute when states will not. I assume there's some kind of anti-conspiracy law (such as RICO?) that would work as well as a Hate Crime law without stepping on free speech.
You're allowed to hate me because of what I am (a Jew, a man, a liberal, a straight dude, an atheist, a bad actor, whatever), but you're not allowed to injure me.
