Best reasons to watch the (fairly ridiculous) show about (really dopey low life) bikers, "The Sons of Anarchy," are Katey Sagal and Jimmy Smits, who are fantastic. Smits is performing a character at once both familiar in real life and rare on tv, a guy who's world weary but still open-hearted and humble. Sagal's playing an increasingly mad gorgon, terrifying and seductive. A lot of absolutely ludicrous stuff on this show but these performances are wonderful. These are actors from whom to steal.
There are other terrific performances on this show--mostly everyone keeps their head up in a sea of ridiculous melodrama, so I bow respectfully to the whole cast--but Sagal and Smits are the reasons to watch it.
